About Us

EarthLungs Reforestation Foundation is a community-led, African-founded nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring degraded ecosystems across Africa. Since our inception in 2021, we have grown into a regional powerhouse in nature-based climate action, transforming landscapes while uplifting livelihoods.

With a vision to plant, protect, and sustain 1.5 billion trees by 2032, EarthLungs anchors its mission on environmental regeneration, local empowerment, and climate resilience. We currently operate 55 active sites across Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique, with new expansions underway across Africa.

Built one site at a time.

2021

EarthLungs is founded

A community-led reforestation foundation is established in Nairobi, Kenya, with one mission: restore degraded ecosystems while uplifting the people who depend on them.

2022

First restoration sites take root

The first community-managed planting sites are established across Kenya, built around local employment and long-term stewardship rather than one-off planting drives.

2023

Expansion beyond Kenya

Operations grow into Tanzania and Mozambique, extending restoration work from inland forests to threatened coastal mangroves.

2024

55 active sites across three countries

The network reaches 55 active restoration sites, anchored by regional leadership and country teams on the ground.

2026

Where we are today

EarthLungs continues to operate 55 active sites across Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique, with new expansions underway across Africa.

Executive Leadership

Victor Mwanga

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Victor Shirybwah Mwanga is the founder and chief executive officer of EarthLungs Reforestation Foundation, leading large-scale forest restoration and community livelihood programmes across Africa. Victor champions innovative, nature-based solutions that integrate ecological restoration with sustainable economic development through initiatives such as BEEyond Trees, bamboo value chains, and Decent Wages for Decent Lives for Forest-Adjacent Communities (DeWaDeLi). Victor holds academic qualifications in logistics and supply chain management, complemented by executive training in leadership and strategic management. He is also a World Economic Forum-certified Emergency Humanitarian Response Expert and has successfully completed the United Nations Basic Security in the Field (BSITF) programme.

Berline Nabwire

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

A seasoned operations and human resource management professional with over 20 years of experience leading organisational operations, people management, and administration across the shipping, logistics, and nonprofit sectors. Currently serving as Chief Operating Officer (COO) at EarthLungs Reforestation Foundation, she oversees strategy execution, operational excellence, financial performance, governance, stakeholder engagement, and organisational growth. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from USIU-Africa, is a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K), and holds a Diploma in Counselling Psychology. She is passionate about building high-performing teams, strengthening systems, and driving sustainable organisational impact.
